Amman, October 1 (Petra) – The Cybercrime Unit of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) issued Wednesday a warning about a new scam circulating on social media, targeting users with fraudulent investment schemes designed to steal money.

According to a statement from the unit, cybercriminals are constantly developing new tactics to deceive the public. The latest method involves creating fake social media pages that use the names and images of well-known public figures, falsely linking them to fictitious financial trading companies to gain victims' trust.

The unit revealed that the deceptive pages are now circulating AI-generated videos, including fabricated television interviews, in which public figures appear to endorse high-yield investment opportunities.

The fraudulent companies are portrayed as expert platforms for analysing financial markets, claiming to generate consistent profits through automated trading algorithms.

One such example is a page operating under the name "Jordan Capital," which falsely advertises automated trading services that promise guaranteed returns.

The page claims that profits are deposited directly into subscribers' accounts an offer the Cybercrime Unit warns is entirely fictitious.

To enhance their credibility, the scammers also publish fake news articles bearing the logos of legitimate Jordanian news outlets. These pages often include fabricated "profit statements" and staged comments featuring common Jordanian family names to build a false sense of authenticity and community trust.

The Cybercrime Unit stressed that these scams typically lure individuals into investing small sums with the promise of large, quick returns ultimately resulting in financial losses.

People are strongly urged to avoid engaging with such pages, to ignore unsolicited investment invitations and to refrain from clicking on suspicious links.

The unit said it is actively pursuing legal action against those operating or promoting these fraudulent schemes.
