Amman, November 4 (Petra) – The Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science participated in the 12th International Meeting of UNESCO National Commissions, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where the Commission's Secretary, Sultan Khalif, was elected Vice-President of the meeting.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Ministry of Education said that Khalif showcased the key activities and achievements of the Jordanian National Commission during the meeting.
He highlighted the Commission's efforts to strengthen partnerships with the public and private sectors, as well as with civil society organisations, to promote education for sustainable development.
Khalif explained that these partnerships have focused on building the capacity of coordinators in UNESCO-affiliated schools to design and implement projects in the field of sustainable education.
The efforts culminated in the publication of a guide featuring 35 best-practice projects.
He noted that the National Commission continues to enhance cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) through the "Stories in Sustainable Development" initiative.
Now in its fourth year, the initiative targets schools affiliated with UNESCO and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) in several Arab countries, including Jordan.
It aims to engage young people in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting addressed a range of topics related to the work of National Commissions in partnership with UNESCO, particularly in the areas of education, culture and science.
