Jordan Seeks Deeper Green Growth Partnership with GGGI

Amman, Sept. 29 (Petra) – Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman met Sunday with Mallé Fofana, Regional Director and Head of Programs in Asia and Deputy Director General at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Dr. Mohamdou Tounkara, Regional Director for MENA at GGGI, and the country representative of GGGI in Jordan, Christophe Assicot, in the presence of the Minister’s Technical and International Affairs Advisor, Jihad Swaeer.

Suleiman highlighted the robust strategic partnership between Jordan and GGGI, congratulating the institute on signing the Host Country Agreement (HCA), a key step to facilitate its operations and projects in the Kingdom.

He praised GGGI’s pivotal role in supporting Jordan’s environmental agenda and advancing green growth by providing technical and advisory support, assisting in developing and implementing Jordan’s National Green Growth Plan, securing climate financing and international investment opportunities, designing bankable green projects, and implementing capacity-building programs in environmental governance and institutional strengthening.

Suleiman expressed his aspiration to deepen collaboration with GGGI in multiple areas, including creating green jobs, applying nature-based solutions, promoting sustainable urban development, and encouraging private sector participation in climate initiatives.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation in preparing new green growth implementation plans for six priority sectors, supporting green and blue growth projects, investing in green hydrogen, climate technology, and carbon markets, and integrating artificial intelligence into monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems to ensure effective performance measurement and accountability.

The Minister also stressed the critical role of the private sector in all environmental initiatives, particularly in executing green growth programs and mechanisms, to support sustainable economic transformation aligned with Jordan’s national priorities and global climate goals.

Fofana lauded the ministry’s efforts and reaffirmed GGGI’s commitment to Jordan, noting that the ministry has made tangible progress in recent years to strengthen environmental action and advance green growth.

He expressed GGGI’s intention to build on this momentum and explore further areas of collaboration to support Jordan’s journey toward a greener, more sustainable future, engaging youth, the private sector, and all segments of society.
