Karak, Oct.30 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa said "Our Footprint for a Green Environment" initiative is a "purposeful" environmental project that contributes to strengthening and consolidating concepts of sustainable development.

The minister noted the initiative aligns with the government's directives to preserve the Kingdom's environment and encourage community initiatives, making this vision "a national responsibility shared" by the public and private sectors, civil society, and local community members.

Bani Mustafa also commended the Ministry of Agriculture's "active" role in encouraging forestation efforts and supporting agricultural and environmental projects, including the Hareer Foundation for Community Development, which contributed to launching the current initiative.

The minister made the remarks while deputizing for Prime Minister to inaugurate the initiative's launch, held in the Silver Jubilee Forest in Qatraneh district on Thursday, aimed to plant 2,200 trees in the forest, located in southern Karak governorate.

The initiative, which was organized by Hareer Foundation, came in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Social Development, as well as governmental institutions, and participation of NGOs, university students, and school students.

Talking at the launching ceremony, Bani Mustafa added that launching youth-led environmental initiatives is a "crucial step to build a sustainable future, as youth are the driving force behind innovation and change." The youth, she said, can direct efforts to raise awareness and protect the environment through their ambitious ideas and enthusiasm.

Noting the diverse environmental youth-based initiatives, she stated young people can contribute to address pressing environmental issues and expand green spaces under these projects.
