Aqaba, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- A new Green Volunteer Program has been launched across youth centers in Aqaba Governorate, aiming to engage young people in environmental awareness and climate action.

Implemented by the Ministry of Youth in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the program brings together 30 participants from each youth center, aged 14 to 17, to build knowledge and practical skills in environmental sustainability.

Through a series of training sessions, workshops, and community-based activities, participants explore pressing issues such as climate change, carbon emission reduction, and sustainable resource management. The program also promotes hands-on environmental engagement, including tree planting, clean-up campaigns, and water conservation initiatives, designed to foster a sense of environmental responsibility and active citizenship.

Aqaba Youth Director Ahmad Al-Hassan said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to empower youth and strengthen their role in sustainable development, noting that environmental programs "instill a culture of volunteerism and teamwork while encouraging creative approaches to solving community challenges." He added that by investing in environmental education and youth leadership, the Ministry is preparing a generation of young Jordanians ready to drive positive change and contribute to national sustainability goals.
