Water minister affirms expedited implementation of AFD-funded projects

Amman, Oct. 23 (Petra) - Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, said the Jordanian government, through the ministry and in implementation of the Economic Modernization Vision and strategic plans for the water sector, is making "unrelenting" efforts to accelerate implementation of multiple projects funded by French Development Agency (AFD).
The minister made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with an AFD delegation currently visiting the Kingdom.
According to a press statement from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Abu Saud called for optimally using "every drop of water and enhancing the water situation by reducing water loss, increasing water efficiency, limiting attacks, expanding water harvesting projects, spreading water awareness." The minister also urged action to complete implementation of one of the key national projects, the National Water Carrier Project, aimed to achieve national social security in the Kingdom.
Additionally, he checked on progress of current projects in the Kingdom's various governorates, which aim to reduce water loss by improving operational systems, support climate adaptation efforts, reduce losses, and increase water efficiency and energy efficiency through projects to improve water security measures, enhance performance indicators, modernize water companies' procedures for managing water systems, and automate procedures.
Praising the French agency's efforts in securing the necessary funding to carry out a number of projects, he expressed his thanks and appreciation to the AFD's support provided in line with the water sector's plans and programs.
