Water minister checks on projects in Tafila, Karak

Tafila, November 4 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, on Tuesday checked on several projects in the southern Karak and Tafila governorates.
During his tour, Abu Soud said the ministry is "seriously" following up on implementing measures to meet citizens' water needs nationwide.
He also referred to the government's ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and provide citizens with safe drinking water.
While inspecting several areas in Karak, he stated the government is working to ensure the "continued and equitable" distribution of water to residents, based on the established schedules.
Abu Soud directed the "swift" launch of operations of Wadi Karak wastewater treatment plant.
Abu Soud was briefed on the progress of the JD6 million project to improve the water network in Faqou' district, as well as projects to improve water and sanitation networks in the areas of Mazar, Mu'tah, and Suburban Karak and extend the network to new regions at a cost of approximately JD500, 000.
Abu Soud reviewed the preparation and rehabilitation of wells in the districts of Muhi, Al-Sultani, Al-Lajoun, Qatrana, and Southern Ghor ahead the summer season, at an estimated cost of JD250,000.
The minister inspected Karak's Meroud wastewater treatment plant's readiness for winter, instructing officials to cooperate with local farmers, facilitate their access to treated water daily for fodder cultivation.
In Tafila, Abu Soud said the ministry has been working to find a "sustainable" solution to the water problem in Barbitah region and ensure the provision of potable water to residents.
Abu Soud directed an increase in the number of water tankers to supply water needs to the region's residents until completion of a treatment plant and reservoir at Al-Hasa-Al-Tannour well, which has been urgently listed in the package of projects to be implemented by Jordan Phosphate Mines Company in the southern governorates.
Checking on a number of projects implemented in Tafila, he reviewed the progress of work, mainly rehabilitation and improvement of the Tafila water networks at a value of JD6.2 million, Al-Ais networks at a value of JD6.7 million and rehabilitation of the Al-Hasa water pumping stations at a value of JD2.2 million.
He also checked on water delivery projects in Ghrandal district worth JD150,000, implementation of the government hospital sewage project, and preparation of a study for supplying Jrifa area in Ein al-Beida district with water.
