Ajloun, Sept. 15 (Petra) -- Wadi Rajeb in Ajloun Governorate, known for its flowing streams, lush greenery, and natural waterfalls, has emerged as one of Jordan’s most attractive eco-tourism destinations.

With rising numbers of local and international visitors, community members and stakeholders are calling for greater investment in infrastructure and stronger promotion to unlock the valley’s full potential.

Activist Arabi Freihat, from the "Environment Unites Us" initiative, described Wadi Rajeb as a "natural and tourism treasure" that requires careful investment planning. He emphasized the need to list the site on Jordan’s national tourism map and provide improved public services to support the growing demand.

Ibtisam Freihat, Vice President of the Wadi Rajeb Women’s Association, said the valley is an ideal family destination but needs more attention from authorities. She highlighted the importance of sanitation facilities and environmental protection measures that also benefit local communities.

Tourism entrepreneur Faheem Al-Samadi noted that improved services would generate significant economic returns, pointing to small investment projects already under way to attract visitors. He added that placing Wadi Rajeb among internationally recognized tourist sites would enhance visitor flows and create jobs for local residents.

Chairman of the Ajloun Governorate Council’s Committee, Eng. Moawiyah Annab, said the council is prioritizing Wadi Rajeb’s development and has proposed listing it with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He pointed to current infrastructure projects, including paving the southern entrance to the town, upgrading and lighting the Rajeb–Jordan Valley road, and improving access routes such as Safsafa–Sakhneh, all with targeted investments worth hundreds of thousands of dinars.

Chairman of the New Kufranjah Municipality Committee, Ismail Al-Arroud, stressed that the municipality is working to open and upgrade agricultural roads in Rajeb, a move expected to strengthen both farming and tourism sectors. He affirmed the municipality’s commitment to empowering local communities to benefit from tourism-driven growth.

Local voices agree that with the right infrastructure, facilities, and international promotion, Wadi Rajeb could become a flagship eco-tourism destination, balancing environmental conservation with economic opportunity. Residents see the valley not only as a natural asset but also as a driver for sustainable development in Ajloun and beyond.
