Social Development Minister meets UNHCR, AFD officials in Doha

Amman, Nov. 5 (Petra) – Social Development Minister Wafa Bani Mustafa met on Wednesday with Raouf Mazou, Assistant High Commissioner for Operations at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) on the sidelines of the 2nd Global Summit on Social Development in Doha.
Mustafa highlighted the humanitarian and developmental role of the UNHCR and commended its cooperation with Jordan.
She said refugees are the responsibility of the international community, not just host countries, and called for support of Jordan’s 2024–2026 Response Plan for the Syrian Crisis, which is a comprehensive national framework coordinating governmental and international efforts.
She also discussed the partnership between her ministry and UNHCR in strengthening protection systems, social care, case management, referrals, and support for vulnerable groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities, emphasizing that this cooperation integrates humanitarian response with national social policies and outlined future joint programs.
Mazou commended Jordan’s efforts in the the social services domain.
The minister also met Laurent Biddiscombe, Executive Director for Global Client Solutions at the French Development Agency (AFD) for a discussion of cooperation in social development initiatives.
She reviewed the priorities of Jordan’s National Social Protection Strategy (2025–2033), with a focus on implementation, integrated policy application, institutional governance, digitization, national social registry linkage, professionalization of social work, and development of inclusive community development centers.
She emphasized programs for women’s empowerment and social care, highlighting legislative, regulatory, and training frameworks.
Biddiscombe commended the ministry’s social programs and expressed interest in future cooperation.
