New York, Sept. 30 (Petra) – The UN Security Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution authorizing the transition from the multinational security support mission in Haiti to a "Gang Suppression Force" for an initial period of 12 months.

The resolution, numbered 2793, was approved by 12 council members, with Russia, China, and Pakistan abstaining.

Under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, the resolution instructs the Gang Suppression Force to integrate the protection of children and other vulnerable groups as a core consideration throughout all stages of its mandate, including planning and implementation.

The Council set the authorized maximum strength of the force at 5,550 personnel, comprising 5,500 uniformed military and police personnel and 50 civilians.
