Doha, Nov. 4 (Petra) -- On behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday participated in the Second World Summit for Social Development, which convened in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, inaugurated the summit, which witnessed broad international participation, including more than 8,000 representatives from United Nations member states at the level of heads of state and government, in addition to officials from international and regional organizations, the United Nations, and civil society institutions.
Jordan’s participation reflects its commitment to advancing social development objectives as outlined in the National Social Protection Strategy, as well as its broader international role in promoting inclusive development. Jordan’s recent co-hosting of the Third World Summit on Disability with Germany in April, which produced the Amman-Berlin Declaration on the Global Inclusion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, exemplifies these efforts.
The Second World Summit for Social Development concluded with the adoption of the Doha Declaration, reaffirming global commitment to social progress and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The declaration underscores a shared political, economic, and ethical vision rooted in human dignity, human rights, equality, and peace.
Held three decades after the first World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen, the Doha summit aims to strengthen international cooperation to build more inclusive and sustainable societies.
