Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) – UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock said that the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved through "an endless war, permanent occupation, and repeated terror," stressing that the only way to ensure future generations of Palestinians and Israelis live "in peace, security, and dignity" is through a two-state solution.
Speaking at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, Baerbock noted that the message of today’s conference and the New York Declaration, endorsed by 142 member states, is that the international community is not only committed to the two-state solution but also establishes "concrete, time-bound, irreversible steps to achieve it, with readiness to take decisive measures and provide international guarantees." She highlighted the plight of children in Gaza, who have been living in fear for more than 700 days, and emphasized that calls for peace and the two-state solution are not theoretical for those witnessing rockets destroying schools, families anxiously awaiting news about the potential release of their children from captivity, UN staff who have seen colleagues shot, and those injured or traumatized by the conflict. Baerbock stressed that achieving peace is ambitious but also a moral obligation.
