Senate Chief, Qatar Shura Council Speaker Discuss Cooperation

Doha, Dec. 21 (Petra) – President of the Jordanian Senate, Faisal Fayez, on Sunday met in Doha with Speaker of Qatari Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, to discuss ways to enhance and develop Jordan-Qatar relations across various fields, particularly economic, investment, and parliamentary sectors.
The meeting also went over current regional developments, including the Palestinian issue and the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
According to a Senate statement, Fayez praised the "high level of brotherly" bilateral relations, as "strong and deep-rooted," highlighting the ongoing commitment of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to boost these ties.
Fayez underscored continuous coordination between the two leaders on issues to strengthen bilateral relations and serve Arab causes.
Fayez reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to undermine Qatar’s sovereignty, security, or stability, emphasizing that the security and stability of the Gulf states are "integral to Jordan’s national security." Fayez also commended Qatar’s regional and international role in supporting security, peace, and sustainable development through mediation and dialogue policies, while expressing the desire to expand joint parliamentary cooperation and enhance consultation on issues of common interest.
For his part, Al-Ghanim affirmed the "depth of historic" bilateral ties, which are continuously growing, especially in the parliamentary field.
He highlighted the Shura Council’s commitment to "constructive" cooperation and coordination with the Jordanian Senate to meet the common aspirations.
The meeting featured discussions on shared concerns and perspectives, calling for strengthening parliamentary channels, coordinating positions in regional and international forums, and promoting visits and experience exchanges.
The two sides also addressed regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing parliaments’ ethical and humanitarian responsibility to take meaningful positions that contribute to ending the humanitarian crisis and achieving a just peace for the Palestinian people.
Additionally, they affirmed the importance of regional and international parliamentary efforts to support the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate rights, including establishing an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
