Amman, Oct. 22 (Petra) – Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein, Al-Istiqlal Hospital, in cooperation with the Al Oun for Alzheimer Patient Care Association, organized a scientific day addressing the medical, nursing, psychological, and social aspects of Alzheimer’s disease.
In a video message, Princess Muna, an ambassador for Alzheimer’s Disease International, underscored the importance of global solidarity and cooperation in raising awareness about the disease. She stressed that rapid societal changes require unified humanitarian, medical, and social efforts to address its challenges.
Her Highness called on the public to engage in awareness campaigns, highlighting that asking questions about dementia and Alzheimer’s is the first step toward understanding and creating positive change. She noted that this year’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Month campaign focused on community collaboration among patients, families, caregivers, governments, and civil society, including memory walks, awareness presentations, and illuminating national and international landmarks in solidarity with affected individuals.
"People with dementia and Alzheimer’s deserve dignity and respect," she said, urging participation in the "Start Asking Questions" campaign as a step toward building more understanding and humane societies.
Yassin Hasban, Chairperson of the Senate Health Committee and representative of the event’s sponsor, highlighted the importance of the scientific day in addressing Alzheimer’s disease, describing it as one of the most complex conditions affecting individuals, families, and society. He praised Jordan’s commitment, under wise leadership, to advancing human health and improving quality of life.
Ahmad Ahmad, CEO of Al-Istiqlal Hospital, said the event featured a series of scientific sessions attended by doctors and specialists. Discussions focused on dementia, delirium, challenges facing Alzheimer’s patients, disease management, integrated nursing care, patient support systems, and methods to enhance quality of life.
The sessions also addressed the role of a balanced diet in reducing aging effects, controlling risk factors, neuropsychological assessment, and psychosocial support for patients and families. Successful experiences in managing Alzheimer’s patients were shared, alongside diverse scientific perspectives on aging and its relationship to the disease, aiming to foster comprehensive understanding and effective strategies for care.
