Petra, Sept 14 (Petra) – Chairman of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), Fares Breizat, discussed on Sunday with the Board of Commissioners the launch of the "Green Belt and Roadside Beautification" project.

Breizat said the initiative is part of the authority’s strategic vision to make Petra a model of sustainable development while preserving its environmental character and strengthening its global tourism appeal.

He noted that the project reflects PDTRA’s commitment to combating desertification, protecting the environment, raising environmental awareness, and involving the local community in safeguarding vegetation cover.

The project aims to expand greenery and enhance the scenic and environmental landscape of the district, particularly along the historic Royal Highway, the main route leading to the Nabataean city.

Covering nine key areas across all communities in Petra District, the initiative will introduce a variety of trees and plants suited to the region’s conditions, including cypress, oleander, chinaberry, ficus, and bougainvillea. Indigenous species such as juniper and oak will also be planted to preserve the local ecosystem.
