Ramallah, Dec 16 (Petra) - Palestinian prisoner institutions said on Tuesday that the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees held in Israeli jails has reached about 9,300, the majority of whom are detainees and administrative detainees.

In a joint statement, the institutions said the figures are based on data provided by prisoner organizations and announcements by the Israeli Prison Service up to the beginning of December. They noted that the total does not include detainees held in camps run by the Israeli army.

According to the statement, the number of sentenced prisoners stands at 1,254, while the number of female prisoners has reached 51, including two minors. The number of child prisoners has reached 350, held in Ofer and Megiddo prisons. The number of administrative detainees stands at 3,350.

The statement added that the number of detainees classified as "unlawful combatants" has reached 1,220, noting that this figure does not include all Gaza detainees held in Israeli army camps and classified under this category.
