Ma’an, Dec. 16 (Petra)- The Awqaf Directorate in Ma’an Governorate has completed the rollout of a unified Adhan (call to prayer) system in 240 mosques across the region, aimed at standardizing the timing and audio of the Adhan through satellite broadcasting.
Basem Khashman, Director of the Awqaf Directorate in Ma’an, said the system has been implemented in all districts of the governorate except for Shoubak, which will be included once the technical broadcasting setup is finalized.
The Adhan is broadcast from the Great Mosque of Ma’an to other mosques within the same time zone, while in Petra District it is transmitted from Wadi Musa Grand Mosque. Shoubak’s 40 mosques will later be linked to Petra due to synchronized prayer times.
The unified system uses certified muezzins with high-quality voices, broadcasting live to a satellite and then relayed to connected mosques via loudspeakers five times daily to mark prayer times.
Khashman noted that the system helps ensure accurate prayer times, eliminates early or late calls, and standardizes the sound quality of the Adhan.
He emphasized that the system does not replace muezzins, who will continue to open mosques, manage receivers, manually broadcast the Adhan if needed, and lead the Friday prayer call linked to the sermon.
