Amman, Oct. 21 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh on Tuesday opened an energy sector roundtable, held in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Kharabsheh highlighted the importance of such discussions in supporting efforts to develop Jordan’s electricity sector amid planning challenges. He said the event was organized at the ministry’s request to help technical teams identify the most feasible options for the country’s future energy plan.

He noted that the ministry seeks to assess technical and financial alternatives across various energy sources, including solar, wind, hydropower, and gas, to reach practical, implementable solutions. Given fluctuating prices and rapid technological advancement, he added, careful feasibility analysis is essential before adopting any option.

The minister expressed appreciation to the EBRD for its continued support, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to strengthening cooperation to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the energy sector.

For her part, EBRD Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region Gretchen Biery reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to sharing expertise with Jordan and commended the strong partnership and mutual trust with the Energy Ministry.

She said cooperation continues in investment and policy dialogue, noting that the bank is working with Jordan to develop a low-carbon transition pathway for the power sector and to coordinate national and international efforts.

Topics discussed included grid balancing amid rising renewable energy use and the role of gas and clean energy in supporting the shift toward a low-carbon electricity system.
