Amman, October 29 (Petra)-Amman His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday was briefed on the progress of the Restoring Hope Society’s Mobile Amputee Support Units, which were designed and developed locally to provide medical care and rehabilitative services to amputees.
During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with personnel involved in the development and supervision of the support units, His Majesty was briefed by Restoring Hope Chairperson Fawaz Shakaa on continuing efforts to develop the support units’ functionality.
Shakaa spoke about the support units’ objectives, which are to reach patients in need of prosthetic limbs and amputee care who do not have access to healthcare, and provide them with comprehensive medical and rehabilitative services, under the supervision of qualified medical staff.
He said the mobile units, which are the product of innovative industrial design and digital health technologies, showcase home-grown Jordanian engineering and medical achievements.
The pioneering Mobile Amputee Support Units demonstrate Jordan’s position as a regional centre of excellence in the fields of prosthetics and rehabilitation, and serve as a national model on how to develop solutions for critical needs, and transform humanitarian assistance into a sustainable, technology-based model.
The Restoring Hope initiative was launched last year, under Royal directives, to provide rapid medical support to amputees in Gaza, and its services for amputees have evolved and expanded since its establishment. Restoring Hope is implemented by Jordan’s Royal Medical Services in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation.
