Amman, Oct. 30 (Petra) -- The Joint International Conference on Obstetrics and Gynecology opened Thursday in Amman, organized by the Representative Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in Jordan, Palestine, and Syria.

The event is held in cooperation with the Jordanian Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (JSOG) and the Jordanian-British Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Talking at the opening ceremony, Mazen El Zibdeh, head of the RCOG representative body in Jordan, said the two-day scientific program covers the latest developments in oncology, infertility, maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, endometriosis, and laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He added that a pre-conference workshop was held on ultrasound diagnosis of ovarian masses.

He noted participants are RCOG President Ranee Thakar, First Vice President Hassan Shehata, and former President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and President of the Egyptian Fertility and Sterility Society Gamal Serour.

Abeer Annab, President of the JSOG, expressed pride in Jordan’s "active" role in regional and international medical education, emphasizing the association’s commitment to creating "meaningful" platforms that bring global expertise closer to doctors and healthcare providers in the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Maher Maaytah, President of the Jordanian-British Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said the conference aims to acquaint physicians particularly young practitioners with the latest scientific advancements in obstetrics and gynecology.

The event features 32 lectures and research papers presented by experts from Jordan, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, with participation from doctors across Jordan, Palestine, and Syria, he added.

The conference discusses cutting-edge developments in the early diagnosis of gynecological cancers and surgical treatments using laparoscopic and robotic technologies.

The sessions also cover topics related to fertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF), women’s health, obesity, and pregnancy complications such as recurrent miscarriage and preterm birth.

Additionally, the conference features a panel discussion on the rising rates of cesarean sections in Jordan, the region, and globally, moderated by El Zibdeh and joined by leading experts in the field.

On the sidelines, a workshop was held on advances in ultrasound imaging and its use in the early detection of ovarian tumors. The event also included the inauguration of a medical exhibition with the participation of several pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies.
