Amman, Dec. 21 (Petra) – Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives Mazen Al-Qadi said the House believes in the role of the media in defending the Kingdom’s mission, stressing that the media constitutes a frontline line of defense for the nation and that its relationship with parliament is an ongoing partnership, given that the battle for awareness is no less important than other defenses of Jordan.
Al-Qadi said during a media networking session for women members of parliament titled "Strengthening Strategic Communication Channels Between Female MPs and the Media," which aimed to entrench cooperation between media institutions and the House of Representatives, that Jordan’s resilience has always been the product of cumulative awareness shaped over many years through a strong relationship between wise leadership founded on justice, wisdom, and the rule of law; a loyal people; and valiant armed forces and security services.
Al-Qadi pointed during the session, which was attended by Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa and organized on Sunday by the Jordan Press Foundation, Al-Rai, in partnership with the General Secretariat of the Lower House of Representatives and UN Women, to the importance of continuing qualitative cooperation with the media that targets women members of parliament.
He explained that this cooperation stems from a firm belief that the media is a genuine partner in national action and a space of integration between legislative performance and the media message, in a manner that enhances professionalism and gives the parliamentary voice broader reach.
Al-Qadi said empowering women members of parliament in the media consolidates women’s role in shaping public discourse and strengthens the delivery of the national message with awareness and responsibility. He stressed that the relationship between the House of Representatives and the media is complementary, based on oversight, awareness-building, interpretation of legislation, and conveying the truth with objectivity and balance.
He noted that Jordanian media has demonstrated an influential presence at various pivotal moments and has been a faithful carrier of the state’s interests and message, particularly during the Israeli aggression on Gaza, when it contributed to debunking false narratives, relying on professionalism and human conscience.
Al-Qadi said this role was in harmony with Jordan’s official position and the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which is based on international law, justice, and the Palestinian people’s right to freedom, stressing that truthful words constitute a fundamental pillar in the battle for awareness.
He affirmed that Jordanian women have demonstrated an effective presence in the Lower House of Representatives and the ability to contribute to legislation, oversight, and defending societal issues, stressing that women’s empowerment is a firmly rooted national practice within the path of comprehensive modernization.
For his part, Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani stressed the importance of enhancing the media presence of women members of parliament as a key pillar in developing political and media discourse and strengthening integration between parliamentary and media work in a way that serves the public interest and enhances citizens’ trust in constitutional institutions.
Momani said the meeting provides an important interactive space bringing together representatives of the legislative authority and media leaders, institutionalizing organized cooperation between media institutions and the Lower House of Representatives, and contributing to the professional and clear delivery of parliamentary messages to public opinion.
He said the program comes as part of a joint effort between the House of Representatives and UN Women, based on a deep understanding of the media’s role and its integration with the oversight role of the legislative authority. He noted that the program is not limited to developing media engagement skills but also contributes to building positive and organized networking that is reflected in the quality of public discourse.
Momani said the program supports comprehensive modernization pathways stemming from the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which are emphasized by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, through supporting women’s empowerment and enhancing the media presence of female MPs within national efforts supported by the Ministry of Government Communication to raise the effectiveness of media discourse.
He stressed that organizing the relationship between the media and public institutions does not mean restriction but rather clarifying roles and distributing responsibilities in a manner that preserves professionalism and ensures accurate and transparent communication.
Momani said women members of parliament have demonstrated an effective presence in legislative and oversight work and have presented models and experiences that deserve to be conveyed to public opinion with professionalism and integrity, noting that highlighting women’s parliamentary role reflects the diversity, strength, and openness of Jordanian society.
In concluding his remarks, Momani expressed appreciation for the partnership embodied by the program between the media, civil society, and constitutional institutions, voicing hope to build on its outcomes within a sustainable framework that serves modernization paths and the public interest.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Press Foundation, Al-Rai, Samih Maaytah said every official needs media exposure and training in dealing with the press, stressing the importance of continuous development of media skills for both officials and journalists alike.
