Digital Transformation in Jordan: A Royal Vision for the Future

Amman, Oct. 27 (Petra) -- Jordan is entering a new era of digital transformation, guided by the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein.

Experts in information and communications technology (ICT) affirm that the royal focus on advancing the digital sector provides a strong foundation for accelerating the automation of government services and strengthening the national digital ecosystem.

According to ICT specialists, Jordan’s digital transformation requires a comprehensive framework that integrates visionary leadership, legislative support, robust infrastructure, and human capital development. This holistic approach ensures progress from policy formation and capacity-building to the practical implementation of digital initiatives.

Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at Al-Balqa Applied University, Dr. Omar Al-Zoubi, emphasized that advancing digital transformation is a national priority aligned with the Crown Prince’s vision of positioning ICT as a key pillar of Jordan’s knowledge-based economy. He highlighted the need to expand fiber-optic networks, adopt 5G technologies, enhance cybersecurity, and unify government and educational platforms to improve efficiency and service quality.

Al-Zoubi also pointed out the central role of artificial intelligence (AI) in accelerating transformation, from big data analytics and predictive modeling to developing AI-driven systems that enhance decision-making across public and private sectors. He noted that universities must equip young people with digital and analytical skills while fostering research and innovation to support government strategies.

ICT consultant and expert Eng. Abdulhamid Al-Rahamneh stated that under the Crown Prince’s supervision of the National Council for Future Technology, Jordan is well-positioned to reinforce its digital agenda.

He underlined that digital transformation "is not an option but a national pathway to the future," noting that the combined commitment of the King and Crown Prince reflects Jordan’s steady march toward a modern, knowledge-based state built on efficiency, transparency, and citizen service.

Al-Rahamneh called for a clearly defined national digital strategy with empowered technical teams, direct coordination with the Prime Minister’s office, and oversight from the Crown Prince to ensure swift decision-making and effective implementation.

Dr. Rima Diab, Founder and CEO of Galaxy for Technology, said Jordan’s digital landscape has seen remarkable progress in recent years. Usage of e-government services rose from 36% in 2019 to over 72% in 2024, while ICT exports grew by more than 13% annually, according to data from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

She stressed the need for integrated reforms, including unifying government databases through AI-secured systems, adopting national cloud infrastructure, and investing in digital skills for youth and civil servants. She also urged stronger public-private partnerships to create innovative solutions in healthcare, education, and public services, supported by flexible legislative frameworks that encourage technological advancement.

Digital transformation consultant Eng. Bilal Al-Hafnawi noted that effective digital transformation depends on leadership, infrastructure, and updated regulations, coupled with practical implementation on the ground.

He emphasized the importance of empowering digital leaders within the public sector, creating attractive work environments, and offering incentives to retain skilled talent, ensuring innovation and sustainability.

Al-Hafnawi highlighted the need to integrate emerging technologies such as AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), and drones into key sectors, stressing the transition from planning to execution within defined timelines to achieve tangible results.

Experts agree that Jordan’s digital transformation is both a royal vision and a national mission, one that aims to create a smart, efficient, and citizen-centered digital state by 2030, capable of driving innovation and economic growth in the digital age.
