Amman, Nov. 10 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud on Monday signed agreements for the implementation of the West Irbid Wastewater Project (Phase Two) and the Southwest Amman Wastewater Project (Phase Three), in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the 2023–2040 Water Strategic Plans.

The agreements, valued at approximately $27.7 million, are funded by the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the ministry’s own resources, as part of government efforts to enhance services in West Irbid.

Abu Saud highlighted that the Ministry and the Water Authority of Jordan are accelerating the implementation of vital projects to improve water and sanitation services nationwide. He said the first package, worth $18.47 million, funded by the EIB and the EU MADA Fund, will serve the Kafr Asad and Qum areas in Irbid Governorate by laying 45 kilometers of sewage lines and 10 kilometers of household connections, benefiting 31,800 citizens.

He added that the third package, valued at JD9.23 million and self-financed by the Water Authority of Jordan, will serve parts of Marj al-Hamam and Na’ur District in southwest Amman. It includes 32 kilometers of sewage lines, 5 kilometers of household connections, and rehabilitation of 2 kilometers of the Wadi al-Seer pipeline, serving around 13,900 citizens.

The minister noted that these projects mark a qualitative shift in sanitation services, with tangible environmental and developmental benefits aligned with sustainable development goals and the national water vision.
