Amman, Dec. 15 (Petra) – The Senate’s Finance and Economy Committee on Monday approved the draft general budget law for the 2026 fiscal year, as received from the Lower House of Parliament.

The approval came during a separate evening meeting, following an earlier session in which the committee discussed the draft law in the presence of Minister of Finance Abdelhakim Shibli.

Committee Chair Rajai Muasher said the meeting reviewed the articles of the 2026 draft budget law and examined the alignment of project allocations with the Economic Modernization Vision and its executive program.

He added that the discussion with the Ministry of Finance followed a series of meetings during which the committee assessed the plans, projects, and strategies of ministries and their affiliated institutions, and their consistency with the economic modernization roadmap and the public sector development plan.

For his part, Shibli said the 2026 budget includes allocations aimed at launching national projects in line with the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision.

He noted that key development projects include the Aqaba–Shidiyah railway in the transport sector, the National Water Carrier project in the water sector, and gas exploration projects in the energy sector, in addition to other initiatives across priority sectors targeted by the modernization roadmap.
