Amman, Dec. 16 (Petra) – Jordan was elected vice-chair of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction, reflecting its active role and standing in advancing housing and urban development issues at the Arab and regional levels.
The election took place during Jordan’s participation in the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction and the Sixth Arab Ministerial Forum on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, held in Doha from December 14–16 under the theme "Urban Sustainability for Future Generations." Director General of the Public Corporation for Housing and Urban Development Jumana Atiyat said the election recognizes Jordan’s contributions to urban development and its tangible achievements through projects and initiatives stemming from the Economic Modernization Vision, particularly in the housing and urban development sectors.
Atiyat delivered Jordan’s address at the ministerial forum, highlighting the corporation’s continued implementation of practical priorities under the Economic Modernization Vision. These include launching a study on standards and frameworks for future cities, preparations to introduce a new low-cost housing model, drafting modern legislation to regulate the housing and real estate development sector, and advancing a project to develop state-owned lands.
She said Jordan continues to pursue a strategic approach to urban development by updating the National Housing Strategy and aligning it with regional and international frameworks, noting that Jordan is the first Arab country to issue and publish a second national report monitoring the implementation of the Urban Plan.
During the forum, Atiyat presented Jordan’s national paper under the theme "Adequate Housing as a Pillar of Social Justice and Basic Services," titled "Integrated Future Cities Centered on Comprehensive Sustainable Development." The paper reviewed Jordan’s housing policy pillars and the adoption of a new planning vision based on sustainable planning standards.
On the sidelines of the forum, Jordan took part in the accompanying exhibition, showcasing projects and key achievements of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation. The exhibition, which included participation from several Arab housing ministries, highlighted the Jordanian experience and facilitated the exchange of expertise in housing and urban development.
