Amman, December 15 (Petra) – The Ministry of Government Communication on Monday launched the second National Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, in partnership with the Institute and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Launched Under the patronage of Princess Rym Ali, founder of the Jordan Media Institute, the strategy aims to strengthen institutional and human capacities, integrate media and information literacy into national policies and bridge digital and knowledge gaps by enhancing critical thinking and responsible engagement with digital and media content.

Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani said the launch marks a new milestone in Jordan's efforts to combat misinformation and promote informed and responsible interaction with information.

He noted that the strategy builds on previous achievements and aligns with international best practices, particularly UNESCO standards.

Momani added that Jordan is transitioning to UNESCO's "Scenario Four," where media and information literacy becomes an integral part of public policy, education and daily life, affirming continued government support for implementation.

He expressed appreciation for Princess Rym Ali's sustained support for the sector and commended UNESCO's technical and knowledge-based assistance.

CEO of the Jordan Media Institute Dana Shaqam said the strategy responds to global challenges, including the spread of misinformation, the complexity of the media landscape and the impact of AI and emerging technologies.

She highlighted the Institute's long-standing role in advancing media literacy and its contribution to developing national frameworks and action plans.

UNESCO Representative to Jordan Nuha Bawazir reaffirmed UNESCO's commitment to supporting media and information literacy in Jordan, praising the country's regional leadership and the close cooperation with national partners in developing the 2026–2029 strategy.

The launch event featured a panel discussion on pathways for integrating media and information literacy into public policy and education.
