PM Inspects Upgraded Sports Facilities at Al Hussein Youth City

Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Monday checked on facilities under renovation at Al Hussein Youth City, a project carried out under Royal directives to upgrade the Kingdom’s sports infrastructure.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for ongoing maintenance of sports facilities to ensure their readiness to serve athletes and youth, as well as host local and international sporting events.

He stressed the importance of maintaining "a comfortable environment" for both athletes and fans, noting that Al Hussein Youth City receives around two million visitors annually and serves 53 sports federations.

Hassan also underscored the importance of coordination and networking between sports federations and youth centers affiliated with the Ministry of Youth to expand and diversify sports programs in partnership with experts, thereby supporting young men and women across all governorates.

Accompanied by Minister of Youth Raed Adwan, the Prime Minister toured upgraded facilities, most of which have been completed, including the Sports Palace, Prince Rashid Hall, Prince Hamzah Hall, the Olympic Swimming Pool, the Cultural Palace, Yarmouk Hall, Petra Stadium, and outdoor training fields.

The modernization scheme covered comprehensive renovation and maintenance works, supplying the complex with equipment for outdoor sports activities, and fully restoring the Olympic Pool to address all technical issues in line with international standards.

Renovations also included full maintenance and lighting upgrades for the Sports Palace, rehabilitation of its flooring and annexes, and refurbishment of players’ and referees’ rooms, serving eight sports federations. Prince Rashid Hall and Yarmouk Hall underwent similar upgrades, while Petra Stadium received full interior and exterior maintenance, including updated locker rooms for players, coaches, and referees.

Additionally, Prince Hamzah Hall which serves seven federations, was fully renovated, with insulation for walls and roofs, improved lighting, and repaired seating areas. The Cultural Palace was also renovated inside and out, with more than 1,100 seats being replaced in its grandstand, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year. Work is also ongoing to upgrade other facilities within the complex.

During the visit, Hassan was briefed by Al Hussein Youth City Director Raad Mirza on the progress of the projects. He also met with athletes and sports officials, who noted that the upgrades have significantly improved the quality of sports events, training programs, and tournaments.

During a visit to Al Hussein Youth City in March, the prime minister directed that a detailed plan for facility maintenance and rehabilitation be devised in line with His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives.
