Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra) – Director General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Fairouz Mubaideen, and Director General of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Ziad Mahameed, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in journalistic and media services.
The MoU provides for the exchange of news, photos, media, and technical expertise, as well as coordination in international media forums, with the aim of enriching media content and reinforcing the joint Arab media position.
Mubaideen welcomed the Syrian delegation, stressing the importance of exchanging expertise between the two agencies, particularly in journalism, training, and technical development. She highlighted the need for continuous training to develop journalistic skills, especially amid rapid technological advancement and digital transformation.
She noted that training in journalistic techniques plays a key role in developing human capital and enriching media professionalism, calling for the adoption of modern, reliable mechanisms that meet the demands of contemporary media.
For his part, Mahameed praised Petra’s professionalism and achievements at both local and international levels, commending its role in delivering accurate and objective news. He stressed the importance of intensifying cooperation among Arab media institutions to combat misinformation and provide reliable information, particularly given regional challenges and the growing influence of social media on news credibility. He also reviewed the agreements and memoranda of understanding that SANA has signed and renewed with Arab and friendly news agencies.
The visit concluded with a field tour of Petra’s directorates and departments, where the delegation was introduced to the agency’s daily operations and its role in strengthening media content.
