Petra, Oct. 22 (Petra) Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Fares Braizat on Wednesday welcomed a British media delegation visiting Jordan in cooperation with the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB). The tour aims to promote the country’s unique tourism assets and highlight Petra as one of the world’s premier destinations.
Braizat greeted the delegation, which included representatives from prominent British media outlets such as the BBC, Lonely Planet, and The Daily Telegraph. The delegation was briefed on Petra’s key archaeological sites and the PDTRA's efforts to preserve the site while managing tourist flow to ensure sustainability and protect its natural and cultural components.
Braizat stressed the importance of international media in conveying an accurate image of Jordan as a stable and safe tourist destination. He noted that Petra attracts a high number of European tourists, one of the largest visitor groups to the rose-red city.
He added that Petra’s value extends beyond its historical heritage as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The authority continually develops new tourist products and experiences, such as walking trails, cultural activities, and the Bedouin poetry house, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into traditional local life.
The delegation also visited the Shaqila Handicrafts Center, operated by PDTRA, which provides training programs for local communities, particularly women. They were introduced to development and tourism projects aligned with Jordan’s economic modernization vision, aimed at enhancing visitor experiences, providing environmentally compliant infrastructure and services, and empowering local communities to benefit from tourism.
The visit is part of an active partnership with JTB and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to promote Jordanian tourism and highlight Petra’s exceptional cultural and human value.
Delegation members expressed admiration for Petra’s natural beauty and rich history, praised the authority’s management and visitor services, and affirmed that Petra represents a global model of sustainable tourism.
