Amman, Oct. 7 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, on Tuesday highlighted Jordan’s significant progress in implementing the Second National Plan to advance United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.

During the meeting of the Supervisory Committee for the plan’s implementation, Bani Mustafa noted that Jordan is among 29 countries that have budgeted plans to implement the resolution, emphasizing the adaptation of the national plan to local needs and its integration into national institutions following Cabinet approval. She highlighted that the Second National Plan introduces new themes on crises and shocks, justice, and diplomacy, and fosters effective partnerships with civil society institutions, supported by UN Women and the National Commission for Women.

Secretary-General of the National Commission for Women Maha Ali said the plan, developed through a participatory approach, addresses women’s participation in security, military, diplomatic, and justice sectors, as well as their roles in prevention, protection, and crisis response. She noted reforms in the governance of the plan, including the establishment of a steering committee and a forum comprising 61 civil society organizations, enhancing effectiveness and participation.

The JNCW presented the executive summary of the 2024 annual report, documenting achievements of the 2023-2025 plan. Key results include: ensuring gender-responsive policies in security, military, diplomatic, and justice sectors, with implementation rates rising to 94 percent from 54 percent; women’s participation in decision-making for crisis response, climate change, and emergencies increasing to 78 percent from 33 percent; safe access to gender-responsive social protection and humanitarian services reaching 98 percent from 41 percent; and promotion of gender equality, leadership, and prevention of violence and discrimination in communities and institutions increasing to 74 percent from 47 percent.

The meeting concluded with extensive discussions among attendees on the plan’s achievements and priorities, reinforcing Jordan’s commitment to enhancing women’s participation and leadership in peace, security, and governance.
