Karak, Dec. 30 (Petra) A specialized technical team from the Ministry of Local Administration on Tuesday surveyed damage caused by heavy rainfall that affected a number of governorates, including Karak, where the team reviewed the extent of damage in the municipalities of Mu’ta, Mazar, Karak and Moab.
The team included Acting Secretary-General for Financial and Administrative Affairs Baker Rahamneh, Acting Secretary-General for Technical Affairs Ashraf Abul Samen, and Director of the Tenders and Projects Directorate Mai Salah, accompanied by a specialized engineering team.
The delegation said engineering teams have begun intensive work in Karak and several affected areas, heading to hotspots and damaged sites to conduct the necessary technical studies, assess the scale of damage resulting from the recent weather conditions, accurately document it, and prepare preliminary estimates of the financial costs required for remediation.
The move comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to support municipalities in responding immediately to the effects of flash floods. Temporary and urgent solutions will be implemented to limit current damage and reduce risks to public safety and infrastructure, pending completion of the technical and administrative procedures needed to approve and implement permanent, long-term solutions.
Specialized teams are also working on comprehensive engineering solutions, particularly those related to the construction of box culverts and rainwater drainage channels and the associated infrastructure, which require the preparation of specialized technical studies and precise engineering specifications.
Implementation of the approved solutions is scheduled to begin once the required technical documentation is completed, regulatory procedures are finalized, and financial allocations are made available, ensuring sustainable remediation and reducing the likelihood of future damage.
The team stressed that the ministry is closely and continuously monitoring the readiness of municipalities and joint services councils to ensure rapid response and address the impacts of various weather conditions within available resources.
