Aqaba, Dec. 30 (Petra) – Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) on Tuesday marked a major operational milestone after handling one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) since the beginning of the year, underscoring a significant expansion in throughput and consolidating its standing on the regional and international maritime and logistics map.

The ACT Chief Executive Officer, Harald Nyhof, said the achievement goes beyond a numerical record, reflecting the terminal’s sustained commitment to operational development, investment in human capital, and the deployment of advanced and environmentally sustainable technologies.

Nyhof highlighted the central role of effective partnerships with government entities, relevant institutions, and all stakeholders involved in port operations, noting that such cooperation represents a successful public-private partnership model that supports long-term operational excellence and consistent performance gains.

He underscored that the milestone provides added momentum to advance development and innovation across all operational areas, with a focus on improving efficiency, enhancing safety standards, elevating customer experience, and building national capabilities, thereby supporting economic growth and strengthening the competitiveness of the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector.

Productivity indicators point to the port’s capacity to accommodate rising container volumes, with handling volumes increasing by 22 percent this year compared with 2024. The terminal handled 602 vessels during the year, up from 494 vessels last year, reflecting a high degree of operational flexibility and efficiency.

The strong performance has contributed to attracting record numbers of ships and improving truck turnaround times within the port from entry to exit, supported by integrated and interconnected systems that streamline organization, scheduling, and customs procedures, reduce waiting times, and enhance customer satisfaction.
