Jerash, Dec. 29 (Petra) Governor of Jerash Malik Khraisat announced the allocation of 69 shelters across the governorate to accommodate individuals stranded or whose homes were flooded.

The shelters include 40 mosques in various areas and along main roads, 19 schools, and 11 youth centers, covering all parts of the governorate.

Khraisat noted that relevant authorities, service departments, and municipalities are fully prepared to handle the impacts of the weather depression. Homes near flood-prone areas have been identified, and residents have been provided with the Operations Room contact numbers. Seven families living near the Wadi were warned to evacuate if water levels rise and to use the provided numbers to reach shelters if necessary.

The main operations room at the governorate building continuously monitors road safety and promptly addresses all reports. Authorities are also tracking water levels in Wadi Al-Zarqa and other valleys, noting that the rainy season is promising, particularly as Jerash has nearly 100,000 dunums of forested land.

Public works crews are managing landslides of soil and stones along a secondary road to Borma sub-district, installing "Jersey" barriers and warning signs to protect travelers. All roads in the governorate remain passable, and any water accumulations or debris are being cleared promptly. Citizens are advised to stay home unless necessary and to avoid valleys and Wadi Al-Zarqa, as well as refrain from photographing floodwaters to ensure safety.

Ekhlas Khashashneh, Director of Public Works Directorate in Jerash, said six emergency field teams operate around the clock to respond to reports. The Sil Al-Majdal road leading to Borma is passable, with precautionary barriers installed and the road surface cleared. Teams continue monitoring the southern entrance of Jerash and are positioned in hot spots in coordination with the administrative governorate to quickly handle water accumulation and debris on the roads.
