King meets with leaders of Qatar, France, Cyprus, and UK, Canada PMs

Sharm El Sheikh, October 13 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday held separate meetings with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, France President Emmanuel Macron, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, United Kingdom Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The meetings, held on the sidelines of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace, aimed to underscore the need to consolidate the agreement to end the war in Gaza as a political path to restoring calm in the region, and to focus on the subsequent stages of the agreement, to ensure its success.

During the meeting with Sheikh Tamim, His Majesty praised Qatar’s efforts in mediating the agreement, and its endeavours to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The leaders also affirmed their support for Palestinians in establishing their independent state, on the basis of the two-state solution.

During the meeting with the French president, the King affirmed the convergence of views between Jordan and France on the need to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution.

His Majesty praised France’s efforts to rally support for the Palestinian cause, commending its recognition of the State of Palestine.

During the meeting with the Cypriot president, the King emphasised the importance of stepping up international efforts to address the consequences of the war on Gaza and alleviate the suffering of its people.

His Majesty also highlighted the importance of maintaining coordination with the European Union in order to achieve security and peace in the region.

Furthermore, the King and the British prime minister discussed the importance of stepping up international efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by reviving negotiations, with His Majesty commending the UK’s recognition of the State of Palestine.

The King warned of repercussions of the dangerous escalations targeting Palestinians in the West Bank, and violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

During the meeting with the Canadian prime minister, His Majesty emphasised the need to exert all efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The King also highlighted that Jordan continues to deliver relief aid to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, praising Canada’s humanitarian response in that regard.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meetings.
