Amman, Oct. 4 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Saturday welcomed the "positive" response of Hamas to US President Donald Trump's proposal to end the war on Gaza Strip, as an "important" step to stop the aggression and and its disastrous consequences.

The ministry also welcomed President Trump's statements calling for an immediate ceasefire to enable conclusion of a prisoner exchange deal within the formula contained in the US President's proposal, which Hamas accepted, in a bid to end Palestinian bloodshed in Gaza.

In a statement Saturday, Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali said Jordan values the "pivotal" role of Egypt and Qatar in efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement.

Majali reiterated his welcome for the US President's efforts and proposal to stop the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent displacement of the Palestinian people, and advance efforts to achieve comprehensive peace, as well as his position rejecting annexation of the West Bank.

Majali said Jordan views partnership with the United States as a "fundamental" pillar in efforts to end the conflict and achieve a just peace.

On next steps, Majali stressed the need to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza, open the border crossings to allow the immediate, adequate, and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the strip, and launch a genuine effort to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Jordan continues to work with its Arab brotherly nations, the United States, and international partners to stop the war and launch a "true and effective" path to achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, he pointed out.

Majali affirmed the Kingdom's "readiness" to resume delivery of assistance to Gaza as soon as Israel removes restrictions and ensures safe aid delivery, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law.
