Amman, November 19 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khraisat, and Secretary General of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L), Dr. Shadi Abdullah, on Wednesday discussed avenues of joint cooperation in the scientific, agricultural, and environmental fields.
During the meeting, Khraisat underlined the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the environmental and climate-related challenges facing the region.
Khraisat noted exchanging scientific expertise and developing monitoring and research programs have become "an urgent necessity" to enhance institutions' capacity to respond to crises, particularly circumstances related to drought, forest fires, and climate change.
The two sides reviewed potential cooperation areas in early warning systems for monitoring forest fires and developing modern monitoring systems that contribute to limiting the spread of blazes and improving "preparedness" of relevant authorities for rapid response.
The duo also discussed strengthening remote sensing collaboration to support natural resource studies and improve weather and climate analysis and forecasting tools and their impact on the agricultural sector.
Additionally, both sides went over partnership areas in agricultural, water, and environmental research, mainly in boosting water resource management, improving agricultural production, preserving ecosystems, and launching joint research projects that serve common interests and support food security efforts in the region.
In turn, Abdullah underscored CNRS-L's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Jordanian institutions.
