Amman, Sept 15 (Petra) – Jordan has made unprecedented strides in digital transformation and e-government services, thanks to coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and other government ministries and institutions, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat said Monday.
According to a ministry statement, Smeirat made the remarks during a session organized by the ministry in cooperation with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) under the project "Together for An Accountable and Transparent Public Administration in Jordan," funded by the European Union. The session was attended by IT directors and institutional development officials from various government bodies.
Smeirat noted that Jordan has digitized 1,728 government services, achieving a 72 percent completion rate, with over 500 services now available via the "Sanad" app and other online platforms. The ministry aims to reach 80 percent by the end of 2025 and 100 percent by the end of 2026.
The number of digital ID users has exceeded 1.8 million citizens. Key projects launched include the digital hospital for remote health services, electronic passports, a tax invoicing system, and e-gates at Queen Alia International Airport, which have streamlined passenger procedures.
The ministry also launched an open data platform hosting over 3,800 datasets and an e-participation portal, "Tawasul," to enhance transparency and accountability. Nine comprehensive government service centers have been operational out of 15 planned, completing over 3.7 million transactions with a 98 percent satisfaction rate. Other initiatives include the unified national registry for government services, the educational information management platform "Ajyal," and the establishment of a primary data center in Amman and a secondary one at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM).
During the session, OECD Digital Government Policy Officer Seong Ju Park reviewed the organization’s framework for digital government and highlighted international best practices to ensure inclusivity and bridge digital gaps.
