Amman, Nov. 18 (Petra) – The Jordan Chamber of Industry said Tuesday that six out of ten industrial sectors posted positive growth in the industrial production index during the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year, underscoring continued industrial activity and the sector’s ability to adapt to economic conditions.
According to a statement issued by the Chamber, the construction sector led overall performance with a growth rate of 2.7 percent, supported by rising domestic demand for construction materials and ongoing infrastructure projects. The packaging sector followed with 2.3 percent growth, while the food and livestock sector recorded 1.7 percent, and the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sector achieved nearly 1 percent.
At the sub-industry level, several activities registered notable increases. The quarrying sector grew by 25 percent due to higher demand for raw materials used in construction. The dairy industry rose by 25.2 percent, driven by expanded production lines and stronger domestic demand. The pulp and paperboard industry grew by 32.6 percent, supported by greater use of paper products in packaging and processing.
The pesticides and agricultural chemicals industry expanded by 33.5 percent, reflecting increased demand from the agricultural sector, while the carpet and rug industry recorded 14.6 percent growth tied to higher production capacity in several factories.
The pumps, compressors, faucets, and valves industry posted the highest growth among sub-sectors at 46 percent, followed by the general-purpose machinery industry at 40.2 percent, signaling clear expansion in engineering industries.
The Chamber stressed that this performance reflects the resilience of the national industrial sector and its ability to address challenges related to energy and transport costs, as well as regional fluctuations. It added that factories have improved production efficiency and enhanced product quality by adopting modern technological solutions.
The Chamber noted that continued momentum at the current pace could lift the industrial production index above 3 percent by year-end, indicating stable industrial activity and improved domestic and international demand for Jordanian products.
It further underlined that the industrial sector remains a key driver of economic growth through job creation, export expansion, and diversification of the production base. The Chamber also highlighted the importance of maintaining support for the industrial investment climate to ensure the sustainability of this growth and strengthen the competitiveness of Jordanian products.
