Amman, Nov. 18 (Petra) – Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Mashhour Refai, discussed with Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Jordan, Metin Kazak, prospects for strengthening scientific and technical cooperation and advancing partnerships.

The talks covered the lavender cultivation project in the Tel Hassan area, implemented by the National Center for Research and Development (NCRD), in the presence of its President, Mohammad Wedyan.

Refai underscored the strong ties between the two countries and welcomed broader cooperation between the council and Bulgarian institutions with shared objectives.

He called for initiatives to advance policies in science, technology, and innovation, support research and entrepreneurship, and foster joint projects connecting Jordanian and Bulgarian researchers.

He also highlighted the significance of the International Conference on the Red Sea Ecosphere, organized by the council two years ago, noting its role in addressing environmental and developmental pressures on the Red Sea. He welcomed Bulgarian participation in the conference’s second edition, scheduled for spring 2026, as well.

Kazak commended the council’s efforts, its scientific standing, and its role in linking industry with academia, expressing Bulgaria’s readiness to take part in the upcoming Red Sea conference through experts with extensive experience in the Black Sea environment.

Wedyan presented details of the council’s cooperation with "Wadi Al-Lavender," the implementing partner of the Tel Hassan agricultural project carried out with the support of the Bulgarian Embassy.

The initiative aims to establish a pilot lavender cultivation site, develop high-value products such as essential oils, cosmetics, and medicinal herbs, and train national teams in modern agricultural techniques, with future expansion plans.

Both sides agreed to develop an action plan with a timeline, defined roles, and follow-up mechanisms, while intensifying efforts to secure funding and broaden cooperation areas to support the national economy and create new job opportunities, especially in rural communities.
