Amman, Nov. 18 (Petra) – The Senate’s Agriculture and Water Committee, chaired by Akef Zoubi, discussed on Tuesday the Social Security Investment Fund’s investments in agriculture, particularly the expansion of processed potatoes.
Zoubi underlined that the agricultural sector faces a number of risks and challenges, foremost among them the provision of irrigation water, and noted the impact of these challenges on agricultural investments.
The Fund’s Chairperson, Ezz Din Kanakrieh, reviewed the Fund’s most prominent investments across various sectors, detailing that the Fund established the Daman Investment and Agricultural Industries Company (DIAI), which works on cultivating and diversifying multiple strategic crops to contribute to achieving food security and mitigating investment risks in the agricultural sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee recommended investing in the cultivation of high-value crops, including medicinal and aromatic plants, within a well-defined agricultural plan based on economic feasibility studies.
