Amman, Nov. 21 (Petra)-- World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that children in the Gaza Strip will need a long time to heal from the devastating impacts of the war.
In a post on X platform on Thursday marking World Children’s Day, Tedros addressed the dire situation faced by Gaza’s children after two years of conflict.
He noted that "children in Gaza are finally breathing moments of calm after two years of violence," adding that the fragile ceasefire has given them a chance "to breathe, connect, play, and even begin to heal." However, he cautioned that "the trauma, injuries, grief, and shattered childhoods will take far longer to recover from," emphasizing that the WHO is working on the ground to rebuild the health system and expand mental health services for children.
"On World Children’s Day, the WHO calls for full respect of the ceasefire, leading to lasting peace," he added.
