Environment Minister participates in World Green Economy Summit in Dubai

Amman, Oct. 3 (Petra)-- Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Dubai, Environment Minister Ayman Suleiman attended the World Green Economy Summit 2025 yesterday, Thursday, at the Dubai World Trade Center.

He reaffirmed Jordan's resolve to accelerate climate action and solidify its role as a productive regional partner in the Paris Agreement's implementation and the country's shift to a green economy.

On the sidelines of the summit, Suleiman met bilaterally with Abdullah Al-Dardari, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Regional Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss ways to support Jordan's national commitments in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and prepare for the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), the ministry said in a statement today. In addition to holding a technical meeting in Amman on financial, water, and energy issues, it was decided to host a tripartite meeting involving the Ministries of Environment and Planning as well as the United Nations Development Programme to decide on funding priorities.

Additionally, Suleiman formally invited the Regional Director to Jordan to attend the opening of the permanent rural display. In the meantime, the UNDP announced that fifty educational licenses would be made available through the "Future Skills Academy," which would benefit over 100 Jordanian staff members from pertinent organizations.

Al-Dardari also formally invited Minister Suleiman to attend the Knowledge Summit 2025, which will be hosted in Dubai in November of next year and feature the introduction of the new Global Knowledge Index.

Suleiman reviewed Jordan's most significant climate-related accomplishments during his participation in the ministerial roundtable on climate ambitions for 2030 and beyond. He specifically noted that the Kingdom has increased its emissions reduction target from 14% to 31% and has so far achieved about 80% of this target thanks to national policies and strategic projects in the energy and water sectors, where 27% of electricity is produced from renewable sources, as well as the implementation of major water projects.

Ministers from the Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, and the Middle East joined Suleiman in the High-Level Leaders' Panel on Implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). He underlined in his remarks that there are plenty of chances for regional and global collaboration in the areas of energy, water, agriculture, and the creation of green jobs, despite the region's deteriorating climate and environmental problems, such as water scarcity and poor economic diversification.
