Cairo, Sept 24 (Petra) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit Wednesday called for translating the New York Declaration advocating for an end to the Israeli war on Gaza into a practical reality through concrete action to end the "war of extermination", accelerate access of humanitarian aid and embark on reconstruction.

Any arrangements for the next day must be based on the implementation of the two-state solution through the Palestinian Authority taking over in the Gaza Strip to preserve the unity of the West Bank and Gaza as a single territory embodying the Palestinian state, he said in a statement.

This requires a gradual, but decisive presence of Palestinian Authority forces to take internal security and impose order, he added.

Aboul Gheit stressed a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip without preconditions, such as setting up buffer zones, noting that such pretexts have no legal or legitimate grounds.

He reiterated the categorical rejection of a forced displacement of Palestinians, adding that "Israeli designs are laid bare to all, and the Palestinian people will remain on their land in Gaza, and there is no way to expel them." The Arab League chief stressed that any temporary force mandated by the Security Council to take stabilization missions must have a sound legal basis.

Such force must work in close coordination with the Palestinian Authority in order to carry out internal security tasks, monitor a ceasefire, ensure a full Israeli withdrawal, and pave the way for the prompt start of reconstruction efforts, he said.

Aboul Gheit stressed that these steps are the practical path to restore stability to the Gaza Strip towards a comprehensive political solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
