Amman, Sep. 21 (Petra) – The fifth Arab Renewable Energy Dialogue Workshop, titled "Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles, Energy Storage, and Green Building Codes," was held in Amman on Sunday.
The workshop aims to enhance Arab integration in renewable energy and modern technologies, unify technical and regulatory frameworks, exchange expertise among governmental, private, and academic institutions, and support the transition toward sustainable and energy-efficient cities in the region.
The two-day event was organized by the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
Participants from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Bahrain discussed green building codes, smart city planning, and strategies to achieve a 40 percent renewable energy share by 2035. The discussions also addressed the rapid growth of the global electric vehicle sector, projected to exceed 350 million vehicles by 2035.
Jamal Qteishat, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, emphasized that the shift toward renewable energy is essential for sustainable development and climate resilience. He highlighted the importance of energy storage, electric vehicle infrastructure, and green building codes in supporting clean energy and safe, reliable urban development.
Qteishat also noted Jordan’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and stressed the workshop’s role in strengthening Arab cooperation and creating a unified roadmap for sustainable development across the region.
Mohammed Taani, Secretary-General of the AREC, described the workshop as a key platform for exchanging experiences and shaping future energy strategies. He outlined six specialized sessions addressing unified technical specifications, safety standards, and the development of electric vehicle and energy storage codes.
Speakers from participating countries highlighted the critical role of renewable energy in economic growth, job creation, and improving the quality of life. Officials emphasized public-private partnerships, Arab electrical interconnection, and regional cooperation as central to advancing renewable energy adoption.
A preparatory session for the 10th Arab Renewable Energy Forum, scheduled for November in Manama, was also held during the workshop.
