Amman, Oct. 19 (Petra) – The Arab Citation and Impact Factor for Scientific Journals (ARCIF) launched its 10th annual report for 2025, which monitors the development of Arab scientific output by analyzing and reviewing more than 956,000 scientific papers published in Arab academic journals.

ARCIF Initiative Head Sami Khazindar, one of the initiatives of the "Marefa" database, said the new report, along with the previous nine editions, highlights the significant growth in the volume and importance of Arab scientific production and publishing despite the challenges facing the region.

He added that the report serves as a statistical reference reflecting the reality and trends of scientific research in the Arab world.

He explained that ARCIF teams reviewed around 5,500 scientific and research journals issued by about 1,500 scientific institutions, of which 1,272 journals met ARCIF’s 32 approved standards, aligned with global impact factor measures.

The journals were published in 20 Arab countries (excluding Djibouti and the Comoros) and eight foreign countries that publish Arabic-language scientific journals.

The report showed that the ARCIF database examined data for more than 364,000 Arab authors who published over 956,000 scientific articles, with citations recorded for 111,000 of them.

A comparison with the first report in 2016 showed a 367% increase in the number of journals, 870% in the number of articles, and 6,800% in the number of cited Arab authors.

Khazindar affirmed that ARCIF has moved Arab scientific output from "invisibility to global recognition," noting that it provides an accurate tool to measure the scientific impact of Arab journals according to international standards and indicators.

He pointed to the growing awareness among Arab researchers of the importance of publishing in Arabic as a means to build knowledge and technology.

According to the report, Algeria ranked first with 426 accredited journals, followed by Egypt with 364, Iraq with 122, Saudi Arabia with 75 and Jordan with 45 journals. In overall impact factor, Egypt ranked first, followed by Saudi Arabia.

In the index of cited authors, Algeria also came first with 26,834 authors, followed by Egypt with 21,988, Iraq with 21,367, Saudi Arabia with 10,712 and Jordan with 6,098 authors, with a notable rise in the number of Arab researchers whose work was cited across different countries.

At the sectoral and disciplinary levels, Egypt topped most fields, including economic, social, educational, legal and media sciences.

Saudi Arabia ranked first in Arabic language and literature, Qatar in engineering and technology sciences, while Palestine led the Immediacy Index through the Palestinian Journal for Open and e-Learning.

ARCIF stated that a digital version of the 2025 report will be available on its website ([http://emarefa.net/arcif](http://emarefa.net/arcif)) before the end of the year, to benefit researchers and decision-makers in the field of Arab scientific research and publishing.

ARCIF operates under the supervision of a coordination council comprising representatives from the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Arab States in Beirut, ESCWA, the "Marefa" database and a scientific committee of Arab and international experts and academics from several Arab countries and the United Kingdom.
