Governorates, Nov. 15 (Petra) – Municipalities across Jordan have activated emergency plans to respond to the heavy rainfall and unstable weather conditions affecting the Kingdom since Friday, officials said.
Mahdi Nusair, Mayor of Northern Mazar, confirmed that an emergency team was formed to ensure a swift and effective response, coordinating with local authorities, security services, and civil defense. In Northern Jordan Valley, municipal and public works crews focused on clearing stormwater drains along the international Jordan Valley Road, Al-Adasiya, and residential streets, removing debris and ensuring unobstructed water flow. Flooding affected the commercial market area in Al-Mashare town and nearby neighborhoods, disrupting traffic and pedestrian movement.
Omar Al-Muhair, Executive Director of Tabaqat Fahl Municipality, highlighted ongoing efforts to pump out water and remove sediment and debris carried by flash floods into streets and marketplaces. Municipalities of Muath bin Jabal and Sharhabil bin Hasnah also dealt with localized blockages and water accumulation in roads.
In Ajloun, municipal teams addressed residents’ complaints of water intrusion and blocked roads, coordinating with the provincial operations room and public works directorate to install water barriers and clear debris. Citizens were encouraged to report emergencies through the municipality’s hotline.
In Zarqa, the municipality of Al-Jadida opened a central emergency room, operating round the clock to receive citizen reports. Emergency contact numbers were provided for engineering, maintenance, environmental, and service-related issues.
Municipal crews in Southern Jordan Valley and Jerash continued clearing stormwater channels and removing sediment to ensure smooth drainage and public safety, under the supervision of local authorities.
