Lower House Speaker, Latin Bishop Discuss Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem Holy Sites

Amman, Nov. 9 (Petra) – Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Mazen Qadi on Sunday received Iyad Twal, auxiliary bishop of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem at the Church of the Baptism of Christ, and an accompanying delegation.
Qadi underlined that the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem has preserved the identity of the holy city against attempts to alter its legal and historical status.
He highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II’s pivotal role in protecting and defending Christians of the East.
He noted that under His Majesty’s leadership, Jordan continues the Hashemite legacy of fostering a unique model of harmony and unity among Muslims and Christians, who stand together in building the nation and defending its noble mission and values.
For his part, Twal stressed the importance of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s role as Custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, describing it as a significant duty that safeguards the city’s spiritual and cultural heritage and preserves its social fabric.
