Amman, Nov. 17 (Petra) The Interreligious Platform for Dialogue and Cooperation in the Arab World (IPDC) issued a statement marking the International Day for Tolerance, observed annually on November 16.

In its statement, the platform reaffirmed its commitment to promoting tolerance, mutual respect and the consolidation of dialogue as a fundamental pillar for building more peaceful and cohesive societies.

IPDC said the International Day for Tolerance established by the United Nations to foster understanding and reject intolerance offers an important opportunity to highlight the central role of dialogue among followers of different faiths and cultures. It noted that meaningful dialogue transcends the traditional notion of mere tolerance and moves toward deeper shared understanding, constructive communication and cooperation among the region’s religious and cultural components.

Dialogue, the statement added, is not a passing stance but an intellectual and human framework capable of transforming differences into spaces for cooperation and creativity while helping build bridges of trust between communities. This, it said, strengthens collective ability to confront challenges and reinforce the values of coexistence.

IPDC explained that its programs and initiatives implemented in partnership with religious leaders and institutions across the Arab world aim to bolster the role of religious leadership in promoting social peace, embedding mutual respect and empowering communities to engage positively with religious and cultural diversity. Joint meetings and projects carried out under its umbrella, it added, directly contribute to enhancing social cohesion and spreading a culture of cooperation and understanding.

The platform called on all partners and stakeholders in religious and community fields to continue investing in the culture of dialogue, broaden channels of communication, and intensify joint efforts to build a future shaped by peace and harmony.

It stressed that strengthening the values of dialogue has become a strategic necessity for safeguarding social peace and supporting stability amid rapid challenges and change.

IPDC serves as the principal umbrella for initiatives and programs aimed at advancing dialogue and fostering social peace across the region.
