Amman, Sept. 22 (Petra) – The Justice Center for Legal Aid (JCLA), with support from the United Nations Democracy Fund and Article 19, a British international human rights organization, on Monday organized a training workshop on the "Cybercrime Law and Its Applications," targeting journalists, media professionals and digital content specialists from civil society organizations.

Cybercrime expert Adel Saqf Al-Hayt told participants that the law provides a legislative framework for dealing with crimes committed in the digital space. He said building the capacity of journalists, media professionals and civil society institutions to understand the law and its enforcement helps strike a balance between protecting society and safeguarding constitutional rights.

He stressed the need to ensure the right to privacy when preparing material for publication online through information technology systems, websites or social media platforms. He underlined the importance of avoiding disclosure of state secrets, refraining from character assassination, ensuring accuracy of information, and adopting a presentation style that reflects good faith.

The workshop covered four main areas: the legal framework for addressing cybercrime, related judicial procedures, the law’s impact on freedom of expression, and practical applications.

The Justice Center said its mission is to promote legal empowerment with the aim of building a society governed by justice and the rule of law.
