Amman, November 16 (Petra) – Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS) Prince El Hassan bin Talal met Sunday at Basman Palace with a high-level delegation of parliamentarians and members of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.
In his opening remarks, Prince El Hassan welcomed the participating delegations and parliamentarians from 13 countries, emphasising the significance of the meeting in the current context of the Levant.
Prince El Hassan highlighted that ongoing geopolitical shifts require renewed reflection on the concepts of identity, borders and shared cultures to enhance the resilience of societies and bolster their ability to confront emerging challenges.
He noted that Eastern Christianity is an integral part of the region's heritage, adding that the future of the Levant rests on three main pillars: land, identities and migrations.
He stressed that the persistence of injustice and the absence of equity create fertile ground for extremism.
He underscored that building peace begins with acknowledging others and respecting differences, affirming that comprehensive intellectual dialogue is essential for preserving the region's social fabric.
Protecting human dignity, he said, is the cornerstone of stability, and dialogue among the components of society is not optional but a necessity dictated by current circumstances and the imperatives of human security.
Attendees expressed appreciation for Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in fostering mutual understanding among religions and peoples.
They commended the Kingdom's efforts to protect the Christian presence in the region and defend the values of coexistence.
The conference concluded by stressing the importance of continuing efforts to consolidate shared values among the peoples of the Levant, safeguard the historical Christian presence and promote constructive dialogue as a steadfast path toward a more stable, just and humane future.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy conference in Jordan, which offered a rich spiritual and cultural experience blending faith, history and humanitarian diplomacy a reflection of Jordan's pioneering role as a land of peace and interfaith coexistence.
